Jesus loves me this I know…

Sometimes I associate the way I think God is feeling about me at the moment with whether or not he loves me. But that goes against everything that I know. I had a talk with my roommate today and I think I gave her a little scare. (Katie, I know you’re reading this!) :) She asked me if I think God’s love is unconditional. My response and first thought that came to mind was no. I can’t really tell you why, but it’s probably because I feel like God isn’t happy with me at the moment. But I was wrong, and I knew I was wrong the moment it came out of my mouth. His love is unconditional. We do call him father, don’t we? I know most fathers love their children no matter what they do. At least, I know my dad would love me no matter how badly I screwed up. God may not always approve of what we do, but he does love us. He finds joy in us.

  • “For God so Loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16, ESV

God’s love for us is so big that we can’t even comprehend it. To show his love, God sent his Son, Jesus, to die for us so that we may live with him forever. Over time, sacrifices have become less and less important, and less and less understood. However, there was only one way for God to bring us back to him: through the ultimate, perfect sacrifice.

God’s love is everlasting. It doesn’t change or waiver when we sin, or turn our back on God. It doesn’t fluctuate based upon our love for him. His love is always there and always includes a promise of eternal life when the love is returned back to him.

  • The Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. Jeremiah 31:3, ESV
  • For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100:5, ESV
  • But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved-and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-6, ESV

Godspeed.
